2008 - 2009 accomplishments
The alumni relations office was active throughout 2008 - 2009 engaging alumni with UAF.
Below are some of our successes and our goals for next year.
Partnerships & visibility
The alumni office sponsored or co-sponsored 30 events in the Fairbanks area. Those events drew more than 1,500 students, alumni and friends from the local community and helped reinforce their connections to the university.
The alumni office and its chapters held or co-hosted 12 alumni events, which attracted more than 526 alumni and friends in Juneau, Anchorage, Palmer, Washington, D.C., Atlantic City, Chicago and Denver. These events allow our alumni to maintain their connections to UAF, regardless of where they reside.
The director was nominated for the third time for the Make Students Count Award.
The alumni association and chapters have contributed more than $50,000 to UAF for multiple projects and donated $15,000 for alumni scholarships.
The alumni office helped ASUAF, the Coalition of Student Leaders, UA statewide and the alumni association board members during their legislative fly-ins, sending e-mails on legislative issues, testifying at legislative hearings and hosting the 11th annual ice cream social in the speaker's chamber.
The alumni office assisted in the creation of the 40 alumni in 40 legislative districts and hosted legislative receptions in both Anchorage and Fairbanks with the advocacy office.
As a way to serve students, faculty, staff and alumni, we offer use of the alumni lounge for classes and meetings. This links our alumni to the campus and increases the association's visibility within the Fairbanks campus community. We had 67 students, alumni and administrative groups use the lounge for a total of 300 events in FY09.
The alumni office continues to pursue new ways to connect with our alumni. Here are some current and future initiatives:
- The association has increased its stewardship by sending more than 1,000 congratulatory or condolence notes to alumni and family of alumni, helping reinforce UAF's commitment to recognizing our alumni in times of celebration and sorrow.
- The association continues its use of social networks and added Linkdin to its social networks. These sites have allowed the association to communicate with students, faculty and alumni about upcoming events and news, and to update the database with up-to-the-minute information on addresses, careers and other pertinent information. We have more than 1,600 alumni and friends contacts on the sites.
- The alumni association awarded seven scholarships to current students. The association has a goal to increase the payments of each scholarship to $1,500 by 2012.
