Major Explorer

GEOGRAPHY

Description:

Geography students study the unique interactions among the physical environments, political events, economic and cultural issues of various regions of the world. Students are equipped with skills in interpreting current geopolitical and environmental issues.


General Interest Area:

Geographers study patterns of human settlement, use of natural resources with current technology to determine change and impact global society.


High School Background:

Earth science, government/social studies, geography, map orientation skills. Strong writing and speaking skills are highly recommended.


Plan of Study:

Geography majors incorporate solid introductory geography courses with selected regional geography courses based on a student’s interest and career objectives. National and international exchanges are strongly encouraged for a true global experience.


How to get Involved:

Geography students meet regularly to plan field trips and sponsor guest speakers related to current issues.


Career and Graduate Possibilites:

Examples of employment for geography graduates are mapping technology (Geographic Information Systems/remote sensing/cartography), international relations, resource planning, tourism and education.
