Special training programs
UAF's Tanana Valley Campus is a leader in career and technical education, academic preparation, and lifelong learning in the greater Fairbanks area, Interior Alaska and across the state. TVC has a distinctive community college mission within UAF, meeting the needs of nontraditional students, first-generation college attendees, military students and those seeking quality training for jobs. TVC students make up nearly 40 percent of all those at UAF.
In the coming decade, over three-quarters of Alaska's jobs will require career and technical education, apprenticeship training or focused training in the workplace. TVC offers more than 40 degree and certificate programs, and works closely with business, industry and labor to build a motivated and skilled workforce. TVC's success is based upon active partnerships with business, industry, labor, school districts and community organizations. These partners ensure TVC continues to provide students with quality workforce education and training to meet Alaska's current and emerging needs.
TVC's Administrative Assistant Academy
The TVC Administrative Assistant Academy provides training to individuals looking to attain employable office skills in a short period of time. The AA Academy will train you not just for a job, but for a career as an office professional.
The Administrative Assistant Academy is approximately 12 weeks in duration. Classes begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. Students are expected to attend every class and be timely in both arriving for class and in the submission of assignments.
TVC’s Fast Track Training
TVC’s Fast Track Training Program is low-cost and designed to meet interior Alaska’s workforce needs in construction, oil and gas, diesel and automotive, safety, drafting, mining and power generation industries. The primary goal of the Fast Track Training program is to allow Interior Alaska workers to complete workforce development certificate programs in high-growth, high-demand job categories in a fast-track, nine-to-twelve month format, enabling them to quickly put their new job skills to work.
TVC's Law Enforcement Academy
The TVC Law Enforcement Academy conducts basic police training for Interior and rural municipalities. The training consists both of students who are current recruit employees of a law enforcement academy as well as students who are considering a career in law enforcement. All students in the program are seeking Alaska Police Standards Certification.
TVC's Paramedic Academy
The emergency medical services program at TVC is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions, as paramedics within the EMS community. The most common entry-level position for paramedics is as an attendant on an ambulance within a 911 emergency response system or for a non-emergency transport service.
TVC's Welding Technology
Welding is an important industrial skill, useful in a variety of areas. People trained in welding often find employment opportunities in the construction, agriculture, mining, transportation, aviation and petroleum industries. The TVC welding program is geared for beginning students who want to learn to cut and weld. The welding program also addressed the needs of the more advanced welder, offering training and opportunity to weld for certification on pipe and plate.
Tech Prep opportunities
The Tech Prep Program is a partnership between the UAF Tanana Valley Campus and the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. It allows high school students to receive college credit at UAF by successfully completing specific, pre-approved courses at their school.
