UA Scholars

UA Scholars are an exceptional group of students at UAF. From the chancellor and provost to the faculty, staff and students, everyone at UAF is eager to welcome UA Scholars to the university. UAF is the flagship of the University of Alaska statewide system and offers unparalleled opportunities for academic achievement. Small classes, international research institutes, eminent scholars and scientists, and exciting research projects are commonplace experiences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. UAF offers some of the best academic and social opportunities in Alaska for UA Scholars.

Who are the UA Scholars?
UA Scholars represent the top 10 percent of high school graduates from qualified high schools around Alaska. These outstanding students are offered an $11,000 scholarship from the University of Alaska to support their college studies if they attend any University of Alaska campus. The scholarship is a cash award paid over the course of eight semesters. A UA Scholar receives $1,375 per semester to help with the cost of tuition, room, board and books.

How can I become a UA Scholar?
High schools nominate students for the UA Scholars award at the end of their junior year based on their academic standing. Students cannot apply directly for the award but must be nominated by their high school.

Deadlines
Scholars receive award letters during the beginning of their senior year and must apply for admission by May 1 to reserve their award. Scholarships must start within 12 months of high school graduation.

Student Notebook Project
