This FAQ is intended as an unofficial reference for undergraduate students considering a transfer to the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The data displayed is for reference only. An official evaluation of transfer credits can only be obtained after you have formally applied and been admitted to degree seeking status with the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

First you need to apply for admission to the university and have official transcripts sent to us from other schools. When you are admitted to a degree program your credits from other regionally accredited schools will be evaluated.

2. How does the transfer credit website work?

• Select the State or Province where your school is located.
• Click "submit."
• Select the school you attended.
• Choose one of two reports:
  • Subject report--to display all evaluated courses in that subject.
  • Full report--to display all evaluated courses from that school in alphabetical order

This site displays college level undergraduate courses completed at regionally accredited institutions in the United States and Canada. Remedial courses, courses for professional development, Continuing Education Units (CEUs), and graduate level courses are not evaluated for undergraduate transfer credit at UAF.

This does not necessarily mean that your courses will not transfer. It may be that the courses are not yet part of our database, which is continually growing.

We began to gather data for the transfer credit website during the Fall of 1997.

Please review the published Table of Substitutions for students transferring courses into the core curriculum at UAF.

UAF accepts transfer credit from institutions in the United States that are accredited by one of the following regional accrediting associations, recognized by the US Dept of Education:

• Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
• New England Association of Schools and Colleges
• North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
• Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities
• Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
• Western Association of Schools and Colleges

Accreditation by one of these agencies demonstrates that the institution operates within commonly accepted standards of instruction.

Look into alternative ways to earn credit at UAF. These include national testing programs such as the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and other exams that have been reviewed by our faculty and are listed in our catalog. You may be able to test out of, or challenge, specific courses that apply to your program through our Local Credit by Exam. Contact Testing Services at (907) 474-5277 for more information. Another option is Credit for Prior Learning (CPL). Through CPL you may be able to document learning that parallels specific UAF courses in a portfolio which is then reviewed by faculty from participating departments (fees apply). If you're planning to transfer to UAF from UAA or UAS, the general education requirements for your baccalaureate degree are transferable; the requirements you completed at one UA institution fulfill the same categories at all other UA institutions. If you have completed your general education requirements at UAA or UAS, you have fulfilled all requirements of the UAF baccalaureate core. If you have taken some of the general education requirements at UAA or UAS (but not all), refer to the table of substitutions for intra-UA transfers.
