Western Undergraduate Exchange
What is it?
The Western Undergraduate Exchange Program is designed to help undergraduates who live in western states pursue higher education at a public college or university outside their home state but within the western region. WUE eligibility at UAF is reserved for incoming undergraduate students pursuing an approved certificate, associate or bachelor's degree program.
How do I apply to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and WUE?
If you are a resident of a participating state and wish to be considered for WUE tuition, you must do the following:
- Complete an undergraduate application for admission to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, indicating your intention to apply as a WUE student. Apply online at http://uaonline.alaska.edu.
- Have your official academic transcript(s) sent to:
University of Alaska Fairbanks
Office of Admissions
P.O. Box 757480
Fairbanks, AK 99775-7480 - Have your ACT or SAT scores (for high school students) sent to the same address.
- Fill out and send in the WUE application (PDF)
NOTE: Students attending any campus of the University of Alaska system under the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program are receiving the benefit of reduced tuition because of their residency in a partner state. Therefore, time spent in WUE does not count toward the time to establish residency in Alaska for tuition purposes.
Yearly Costs
Find out what this year's costs are, comparing in-state, out-of-state and WUE.
What a bargain!
As a WUE participant you will be charged a reduced tuition rate equal to 150 percent of the amount charged to Alaska residents. University fees, books and supplies, and room and board are the same for all students at UAF.
Programs open to WUE students on a space-available basis
