Letter from UAF's Provost

Provost Susan Henrichs

Hello,

I am pleased that you are considering studying at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I am proud to have served this quality higher education institution for more than twenty-five years, and I am glad to recommend it to you. UAF offers strong academic programs, enhanced by the opportunity to study and conduct research with internationally recognized faculty in a unique northern environment.

At UAF nearly all of our classes are small enough so that your instructor and fellow students will get to know you as an individual. Our Fairbanks campus undergraduate population is approximately 5,500 students, making it possible for more than two-thirds of our classes to have fewer than 20 students. Less than 2% of our classes have enrollments greater than 50. Even more important than this, UAF offers high-quality education and UAF is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. In addition, many of our degree programs, such as engineering, education, business, journalism, social work, music, and computer science, have specialized national accreditation.

At UAF one of our goals is to offer out-of-class learning experiences to our diverse student population. Our Honors and Leadership Programs attract highly motivated students who excel in scholarship and service. Internships with businesses and agencies offer a wealth of practical experience to students majoring in fields like business administration, social work, or fisheries. Our location means unique undergraduate student research and learning opportunities which you can learn more about at www.uaf.edu/research/. Some outstanding student projects have included studies of gold mines, permafrost, the life history of candlefish, avian influenza virus, traditional diet and the health of Alaska Native people, and seasonal affective disorder.

We'd love to send you more information about your area of interest. Please contact an Admissions Counselor from our website at www.uaf.edu/admissions/info/ or call Admissions at 800-478-1823 or 907-474-7500 and ask to speak with an Admissions Counselor. They're ready to help you.
