For graduate students financial aid is available in the form of assistantships, which are awarded through academic departments on a competitive basis when the student is accepted to the program. Graduate students seeking teaching or research assistantships should contact their specific department directly.

UAF offers professional licenses, graduate certificates, master's degrees and the doctor of philosophy degree in a number of areas. The Graduate School also manages UAF's unique interdisciplinary program where students can work on individualized degrees related to current issues. The Office of International Programs (OIP) provides information and assistance to international students, researchers and faculty at UAF. These include students from other countries attending UAF in formal academic degree or exchange and study abroad programs, and researchers and faculty participating in collaborative research and/or teaching. They also include UAF students, researchers and faculty wishing opportunities to travel abroad through international student exchange, study abroad and faculty abroad programs. Credits earned through student exchange and study abroad programs may be applied to UAF degree programs. The OIP also serves as a resource for immigration information for the UAF community. To live in campus housing, you must be a full-time student. This means you must successfully complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester as an undergraduate student or 9 credits per semester as a graduate student. Since you cannot submit a reservation for campus housing until you are accepted, we recommend that you send admission materials several months in advance of the admission deadline to ensure the availability of housing. Fairbanks, Alaska's second largest city, sits on the banks of the Chena River in the heart of Alaska. From the UAF campus, the downtown district is easily accessible via the local bus system and a network of bike trails. The city is steeped in a history of riverboat captains and gold seekers. Its character has been shaped by a large military presence, construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and the continuing oil economy, and a thriving university. With a population of more than 97,500, the Fairbanks area offers the conveniences of a big city, yet millions of acres of rolling hills and spectacular panoramas are only minutes away. Denali, the highest mountain in North America, is often visible from many UAF residence hall windows. At UAF you find faculty members who are among the best in the country, and because of the low 12 – 1 student/faculty ratio, you receive more personal attention here than you would at almost any other public university in the nation. Once you have chosen a major, you will be assigned a faculty advisor from your academic department. Your advisor will help you choose classes each semester and will explain programs and requirements.
