UAF students in class

Jump AHEAD of the rest!

The AHEAD program is for high school students who would like to enroll at UAF. High school students will receive academic advising, official admission into UAF and dual high school and university credit.

Goals and objectives:

  • To admit qualified high school students into UAF as concurrently enrolled students (simultaneously enrolled for credit in high school and university courses).

  • To provide high school students official UAF admittance as general studies freshmen, enabling students to take advantage of early orientation and registration programs.

  • To foster planned, cooperative advising among high school students, parents, high school counselors and/or teachers, and the AHEAD program coordinator.

  • To provide local high school students with unique opportunities for enriched scholastic and talent development.

AHEAD Program eligibility

Admission to the AHEAD Program is based on an evaluation of high school GPA and course work. You must have completed 75 percent of your high school academic core curriculum, and have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. You must take the ACT or SAT test (including Writing portions) prior to enrolling in UAF classes. Once you have earned a high school diploma you may apply to change your major from General Studies to any program offered at UAF.

Tuition and fees for AHEAD students are based on the current tuition and fee rates at UAF and are your responsibility. The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District will not pay tuition costs, and state and federal aid is not available to AHEAD students.
