PRE-COLLEGE STUDENTS

AHEAD
Qualified high school students can be admitted to UAF and enroll for simultaneous credit in high school and university courses. As an AHEAD student you have all the rights and responsibilities that you would if you were a freshman in college.

Home-schooled students

Alaskans are known for their independence and for their strong values, so it's no surprise that Alaska boasts a strong home school movement. Because we value independence and innovation, UAF encourages home-school students to consider UAF as a college choice. Review the admissions criteria for home school students in the catalog. Contact Mary Kreta for questions specific to admission from a home school program.

Advanced placement (AP) credit
UAF grants advanced credit, with waiver of fees, for a score of three or higher in the College Board Advanced Placement Tests. Normally, you take these tests during your senior year in high school.

If you are a high school student wanting to take one or two classes at UAF, secondary enrollment is for you. Fill out the form online, print and sign it, and contact the instructors to get signatures. Then deliver or send it to the Registrar's Office in Signers' Hall.

Tech Prep opportunities
The Tech Prep Program is a partnership between the UAF Community and Technical College and the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District. It allows high school students to receive college credit at UAF by successfully completing specific, pre-approved courses at their school.

Other opportunities to check out UAF:

Alaska Summer Research Academy
The program provides an opportunity for students entering grades 8-12 to choose from 15 subjects during a two-week camp, while they experience life on the UAF campus and earn college credit.

Rural Alaska Honors Institute
RAHI prepares rural and Alaska Native high school students for academic excellence and college success by offering a summer institute on the UAF campus every year.

Summer Sessions youth programs
UAF Summer Sessions offers a variety of opportunities for youth to participate in UAF classes, academies and workshops.
