Why can't I access some of the forms? |
|
Some forms will be in .pdf format and will require Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Download it free: You may also get Adobe Acrobat from Computing & Communications' site. |
I'm still having problems. When I click on a form, a window pops up, asking me things I don't understand. What does it want, and what should I do?
|
If a small window pops up asking for you to "Pick the application" or "Get new pluggin," the solution is: Pick the application. Your internet browser has not had to do this before, and needs one-time guidance for file association. When you click "Pick the application" you will get a window showing files in your computer. If the document you are trying to open is a Microsoft Word document, you will need to find the "Winword.exe" file. It should be in Program Files, Microsoft Office, Office. Scroll down in the Office folder and click on the Winword application file. Now that your browser understands which file to associate with this application, you won't have to do this again. If the document you are trying to open is a Microsoft Excel document, you will need to find the "Excel.exe" file. It should be in Program Files, Microsoft Office, Office. Scroll down in the Office folder and click on the Excel application file. Now that your browser understands which file to associate with this application, you won't have to do this again.

Why can't I just make copies of these forms and keep them at my desk for use? |
These forms will change periodically. Sometimes the changes will be minor; other times there will be major changes. Ultimately, we hope to have most of our forms interactive. You will be able to fill out the form on the web and the information will go right to a database, then submit the form via the web. This will speed up the processing of the forms and save many hours of work. BUT if you aren't using the forms here, you won't know when those changes occur and may very well be using outdated forms as well as outdated submission procedures.

How will I know when forms change? |
Unless you use the departmental forms accessed via the web, you won't know there has been a change; one more reason to take advantage of the central forms page.
