The Alaska Rural Energy Conference is a three day event offering a large variety of technical sessions covering new and ongoing energy projects in Alaska, as well as new technologies and needs for Alaska's remote communities. With 24 technical sessions and many additional breakout sessions, the conference provides important information for all sectors of the Alaskan community.
Alaskan leaders have long recognized that access to safe, reliable, efficient and affordable power is essential to the development of any modern economy. The State and Federal governments have dedicated millions of dollars to build community power plants, fuel storage facilities and other infrastructure in rural Alaska. Private sector investment is starting to grow. These projects have improved the quality of life for rural Alaskans, and the sustainability of that infrastructure ultimately benefits all Alaskans.
Last year's conference in Fairbanks attracted over 500 people from over 100 villages and towns in Alaska and beyond. The mission of the conference is to create a forum for energy stakeholders to share ideas and information with the goal of promoting economic development, environmental sustainability and energy security for Alaskans.
The Planning Committee is led by the Alaska Energy Authority and the Alaska Center for Energy and Power, with important input by Renewable Energy Alaska Project (REAP), and National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). With a collaborated effort, an agenda covering all aspects of energy in rural communities can be covered.
