Daisy earned her BS in mechanical engineering from UC Berkeley and worked as a mechanical designer in the Silicon Valley during the heady years of the dot com explosion. In the meantime, she earned her MS in mechanical engineering from Santa Clara University, utlizing their "early bird" program that offered coursework from 7 to 9 a.m., allowing her to continue to pursue her career full-time. Her MS adviser was one of the first women to earn a PhD in mechanical engineering, and she encouraged Daisy to pursue her PhD some day. When what later came to be known as the "dot com bubble" popped, Daisy thought it was a good time to do this, and try a new geographical location to boot.
This brought her to UAF in 2007, and becoming interested in energy issues became a natural fit. Living in a dry cabin in a city with one of the highest heating requirements and highests costs of energy in the world made Daisy keenly aware of the need to use technology to increase energy efficiency and to develop local renewable energy sources. Daisy is happy to do research work for ACEP, while teaching as an adjunct professor and writing her thesis as well. In her copious spare time that is left after those three things, she enjoys skiing, hiking, backpacking, gardening, cooking, eating, reading, and hanging out with her retired sled dogs, who have recently become the beneficiaries of a new cabin policy change and are allowed on the couch.
