Affiliated Faculty

AHERC is a collaborative research center made up of faculty, staff, and students throughout the UA system. Researcher’s self‐identify with AHERC through projects, while remaining housed within their major academic unit or organization.

Jerome Johnson , Institute of Northern Engineering
Jerry is the Faculty Director of AHERC.

Andrew Seitz , School of Fisheries & Ocean Sciences
Andrew focuses on the environmental impacts of hydrokinetic devices, specifically to fishes. 

Horacio Toniolo , Water & Environmental Research Center
Horacio's research related to hydrokinetics involves analysis of turbulence, hydraulic modeling, sediment load characterization, and fluvial hydraulics. 

Jack Schmid, Alaska Center for Energy and Power                                                                                                    Jack is a research engineer with ACEP, and oversees AHERC’s work at Nenana.

Gwen Holdmann, Alaska Center for Energy and Power                                                                                         Gwen is the Director of ACEP.

Jason Meyer , Alaska Center for Energy and Power                                                                                                  Jason is the ACEP program manager for Emerging Energy Technology, and the staff coordinator for AHERC.  

Advisory Council

AHERC has an Advisory Council that includes key hydrokinetic stakeholders throughout the state. The goal of the council is to guide the development of AHERC’s research agenda and ensure its work is relevant, responsive and utilized. Council membership is intended to represent a broad cross section of stakeholders representing developers and manufacturers, energy and resource advisors, rural and tribal organizations, regulatory agencies, utilities, and universities. This group meets on an annual basis to provide insight and expertise to ensure AHERC is well informed of research needs, industry trends, and potential issues related to the technology sector.
