Core Values
We recognize that Alaska’s energy picture is unique and requires a forward looking, innovative approach. In order to be successful, ACEP has built our culture on a few significant values:
Alaska’s complex energy solutions will not be found working in silos.
ACEP connects our funding partners with resources from throughout the University of Alaska system with its model of integrated, multidisciplinary teams to meet the research needs of our clients. ACEP projects include researchers from the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER), the Institute of Northern Engineering, the Geophysical Institute, the Institute of Arctic Biology, and the School of Natural Resources.
Partnerships and Alliances allow ACEP to be responsive and connected to our clients.
ACEP collaborates with key stakeholders in the energy industry to seek solutions with a high probability of success, broad application, state-wide and global relevance and economic sense. Our partners include the Alaska Energy Authority, the Denali Commission, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and the Cold Climate Housing Research Center. ACEP has also developed key partnerships with over 75 private companies, utilities, and native organizations.
A hybrid organization combining academic freedom and curiosity with business pragmatism and fiscal responsibilities sets ACEP apart.
ACEP operates under a private sector business model within the University system. Our organization is lean and comprised of researchers that do not have teaching assignments or other academic obligations. This allows ACEP to retain priorities that are cohesive with our client’s motivations. We can complete projects quickly and produce reports and other work products that are concise and easy to interpret. Because ACEP draws from resources throughout the UA system, ACEP can be very agile and responsive to the immediate research needs of its clients.
The integrity of our research will not be compromised.
We believe strongly in the value unbiased, third party evaluations can bring to Alaska’s energy future. Our integrity and the validity of our findings are the most critical assets of this program.
We are building the future of energy in Alaska.
ACEP takes that responsibility very seriously. We maintain that the right solutions for Alaska will have far reaching results and long term impact. We ensure our own projects connect students to their future through internships and student work programs which allows bright students to jump in with both feet. ACEP has numerous undergraduate and graduate research students that are directly involved in our projects under the oversight of experienced ACEP faculty and staff.
