About us

University Advancement

Mission Statement

University Advancement leads UAF’s community engagement efforts by creating excitement, involvement and support.

Core Values

  • We value collaboration and teamwork within our unit, the larger UAF/UA community, and with our external and internal stakeholders.

  • We value consistency in our messages and in how we do business, because a strong unified voice makes for a strong unified university.

  • We value community involvement, both internal and external to UAF, because through this involvement we create a network of advocates for the university.

  • We value commitment to our mission and to each other, along with building trust in the university through our competence and character.

Vision

University Advancement will make a positive difference in the lives of others by:

  • Telling stories that engage the community with the university and vice versa, and that inspire others to connect with us through giving, enrolling and supporting.

  • Helping ensure the success of our students by providing opportunities to excel in academics, career and life, and creating and advocating for a positive and enriching campus environment in which they can thrive.

  • Inspiring the campus community to work with us to be advocates for the university and to be ambassadors that help us create excitement, involvement and support.

Goals

University Advancement will work to accomplish the following goals in FY09:

  • Increase participation and level of giving.

  • Assist in improving the recruitment and retention of students.

  • Build and enhance relationships, both within the community and within the university.

Alumni Association

The UAF Alumni Association exists to serve and support UAF, its graduates and former students. Because UAF alumni possess a unique personal interest in and commitment to the university, the association seeks to promote and encourage excellence in all aspects of the university through private and public efforts, and to provide opportunities for alumni to maintain a lifelong, meaningful involvement with the university and each other.

Athletics

The Alaska Nanooks intercollegiate athletic program is a Division II member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for men's and women's basketball, cross country running, cross-country skiing, rifle and women's volleyball. UAF is a Division I member of the NCAA for men's ice hockey, a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). KUAC

KUAC-FM and KUAC-TV were the first public radio and television stations in the 49th state. They were established so that Alaskans would have access to the same opportunities as other Americans. Connecting Alaska to the world was a challenge for broadcasters in the early days. More than 40 years later, much has changed. However the core purpose remains the same: improving lives through broadcasting. Over the years, many people have given their best efforts, their volunteer time and their financial support to make it happen.
