Local, Native Observations of Climate Change
Observing Locally, Connecting Globally (OLCG):
This project engages and supports teachers, students and community members as they investigate climate change issues in rural Alaska. It provides an intensive summer institute for educators and ongoing support throughout the year. Special attention is given to integrating Native knowledge and western science; best practices in science and math education; and the international GLOBE curriculum. Climate Change Project Jukebox:
Project Jukebox is the digital branch of the Oral History Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. This section features digital recordings of observations of climate change in Alaska by experienced members of the native community who maintain close contact with elders and who have a strong interest in environmental issues because of their own activities on the land. Many of their observations provide direct links between the climate and environmental changes they observe and the effects of those changes on life in rural Alaska. It also includes a presentation by snow and climate change scientist Matthew Sturm from Fairbanks.
