Definitions

The American Meteorological Society provides the following definitions:

Weather: The state of the atmosphere at some place and time described in terms of such variables as temperature, cloudiness, precipitation and wind. Example: A high wind gust of 74 mph occurs as a deep low pressure system moves across the Bering Sea and hits the northwest Arctic coast, causing structural damage and power outages.

Climate: Weather of some locality averaged over some time period plus extremes in weather behavior observed during the same period or during the entire period of record. Example: The average March temperature for a given location is 12°F colder than normal and sets a new record low monthly temperature.
