The Social Work program affords opportunities for students to discover more about themselves as they work to improve the quality of life for others, advocate for issues of social and economic justice for vulnerable populations and to acquire the skills, knowledge, and values to work with the diverse people and geographic challenges unique to Alaska.

Child welfare, aging, mental health, community organizing, rural social work, chemical dependency, women's issues.

A general high school education.

Social Work majors are encouraged to complete the university core requirements in their freshman and sophomore years in order to meet the general requirements for a bachelor of arts degree. Social work students then follow a sequenced academic study of social welfare policy and services, human behavior, values, ethics, research, and direct practice methods. In the senior year students are allowed to pratice social work under the supervision of a field instructor in a social service agency.
