Natural Resources Management (NRM) consists of making and implementing decisions to develop, maintain, or protect ecosystems to meet human needs and values. The NRM degree prepares students to work in both field and management positions. Graduates of NRM have a good understanding of the basic sciences and applications to the environment.

Fields of study may include ecosystem management, resource planning, resource policy, forestry, environmental education, outdoor recreation, horticulture, soil science, hydrology, and animal science.

Government/social studies, biology, ecology, chemistry, algebra, and geometry. Strong writing and speaking skills are recommended

The NRM program offers three options: Resources; Forestry; and Plant, Animal, and Soil Sciences. Students gain technical competence in one or more resource disciplines in addition to political, economic, and cultural aspects of NRM. Each student is encouraged to specialize in a general interest area.

RMS-Resource Management Society--a student guided organization sponsoring field trips, lectures, etc. Alaska Collegiate FFA--promoting natural resource and environmental education. Society of American Foresters Yukon Chapter--professional forestry organization meets regularly and encourages student participation

Most NRM jobs occur in the public sector with resource agencies, such as National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, US Fish & Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Alaska Department of Natural Resources, and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation. Private sector positions are available in mining, oil, tourism, and other resource based industries. Private consulting opportunities also exist or can be created.
