GEOGRAPHY (ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES)

Description:

Geography students in this program gain an interdisciplinary perspective regarding environmental issues with a solid foundation in physical and cultural geography courses. Environmental electives are chosen from the fields of fisheries, wildlife, resource planning, forestry, ecosystem management, and agriculture.


General Interest Area:

Environmental Studies provides a broad understanding of the natural and social environments and seeks to equip students with an ability to find balanced solutions to global environmental problems.


High School Background:

Earth science, government/social studies, biology, chemistry. Strong writing and speaking skills are highly recommended.


Plan of Study:

Environmental Studies incorporates solid introductory geography courses with selected environmental electives based on advisor/student discussions. National and international exchanges are strongly encouraged for a true global experience.


How to get Involved:

Geography students meet regularly to plan field trips and sponsor guest speakers related to current issues.


Career and Graduate Possibilites:

Examples of career opportunities for Environmental Studies graduates are state and federal resource management agencies, mapping technology (Geographic Information Systems/remote sensing/ cartography) urban and regional land planning and graduate research.
