The Alaska Alpine Club "was formed to promote the exploration and enjoyment of Alaskan mountain areas - areas which are unrivaled."

Current club activities include maintaining a climbing wall at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Student Recreation Center, maintaining local climbing crags, conducting a semester-long two-part Ski Mountaineering Class & Technical Climbing Class, and participating in community events.

Past club activities include lobbying the state government to prevent industrial development in local climbing spots (the famous Alaska Pipeline was originally routed through the granite crags northeast of Fairbanks) and publishing guides to local climbing areas.

Club meetings take place every month (second Tuesday of every month) except January and summer months. Anybody is welcome to attend. The meetings often include slide shows.
